The problem with art is that it isn't just about the intentions of the artist, however high-minded they might be. Ingres' 'The Turkish Bath' and Courbet's 'Origin of the World' are, each, in their own very different ways, great works of art, albeit works of art that you'd google with care. I've no idea what was on Ingres' mind, but Courbet was definitely making a statement about realism and the history of painting.

The problem is that both works were commissioned by the same man. So……whatever Allen Jones was on, the work becomes what it means to the people who look at it, and, not least, what it means to the people who buy it.

Is that black strap around her thighs and back to keep her in position? Or is the black strap to hold the cushion in place?

Anyway, I think it's rather silly. Reminds me a little of this rather weird project, which involves someone using naked ladies as a scarf! Not Safe for Work Link.
