.............of taking apart the oven door to clean the glass, and breaking it. I was so proud that I'd found the manual, unhinged door, got rid of the stain on the glass, buffed it to a wonderful smear-free shine, and then realised when putting back together that certain plastic parts have snapped off the glass parts and the handle is no longer attached. What I thought was a semi-circular design on the handle is a clean break.

I only decided to clean the smear as we are selling the house. Aaagh, need to find a cheap built in oven asap. At least I can then say the oven is brand new, as is the built-in microwave that I just had to replace as I managed to blow the last one by putting tin foil in it. I may as well give the house away.

I don't think I'm going to be popular when hubby gets in - so much for a productive bank holiday.

Isn't it just . Turns out I'm off the hook........the handle was snapped in a few places and held the glass in place. I found the part number on the Hotpoint website but it was out of stock ............copy and paste a few moments later into Ebay and "hey presto" the handle is on it's way, first class, and I'm only £38 out of pocket.

Hubby was very nice about it - he said it was a stupid design as the glass should've just slid out of the handle fixings but it had been glued in (the instructions tell you to just slip it out) so perhaps it wasn't totally my fault after all, although I am known to be impatient and heavy handed with most things.

Still, should've gone out on my bike though.....

Damage something bigger and more valuable, that way your spouse will be less concerned about the oven damage.

I've already learnt from my mistakes..........a wasted, expensive bank holiday when I could've took my bike, binoculars and butties down to the coast for a spot of bird watching....
