Keeps down the mosquito larvae dunnit?
Having recieved a bit of money for Christmas, we decided to treat our living room to a fish tank with 4 gold fish. Just a bit of fun and me being nosey; show us your tank be it for fish, turtles snakes or any other tanked pet. Would be good to see what others have and how their tanks are set up.

This calls for my favorite Tommy Cooper joke:
Two goldfish in a tank. One says to the other,
"You drive, I'll man the gun"
Sorry DebzHiya akb, did you cycle your tank before putting the fish in? It takes about 6 weeks to cycle using household ammonia. Do you have a water testing kit?
We went for tropical fish as we found gold fish took a lot more care and you need a really big tank for goldies as they can grow up to 1 foot in length and decent filter as they produce a lot of waste. This will explain it http://www.allabout-aquariumfish.com/2009/02/tank-size-for-goldfish.html http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/articles_12/keeping-goldfish.htm
Common Goldfish:
40 gallons (48 US gallons, 180 litres) for the first fish with an extra 12 gallons (14 US gallons, 55 litres) for each extra fish. The tank needs to have a minimum length of 4 feet (120cm) to allow swimming room. Single tail goldfish are more suited to a pond when they are near full size to give them swimming room.
Depending on the size of your tank you may be overstocked which can harm the fish.Sorry Debz
