Neither. He's a non-pedigree.

I wish that people would stop making the assumption that a blue cat equals a pedigree breed. Yes, Russians are blue (but also come in black and white), BSH come in blue (but also just about every other cat colour under the sun) and non-pedigrees also come in blue. That's because the two recessive genes that produces blue cat (non-agouti and dilute) that turn a "bog standard" tabby cat into a solid blue are endemic in the general non-pedigree population, not just in pedigree breeds.

A blue cat has two copies of the recessive a (non-agouti) gene that turns tabby into black, and two copies of the d (dilute) gene, which then turns black into blue. The latter is the same gene that turns ginger into cream and chocolate into lilac. Both parents must carry the gene and pass it onto their offspring.

Both of my past and current blue cats are non-pedigree.

Thanks. I have had several BSH down the years but don't confess to being an expert on pedigrees at all. I just love cats 🐱

Well, they're annoying little psychopaths that somehow get under your skin... Probably why they make such wonderful companions xxx I'm currently on a few waiting lists for a rescue Siamese or Oriental.

I judge Household Pets at cat shows (both non-pedigree and pedigree pets), and I steward in the pedigree sections. Stewarding involves handling the cats for the judge and keeping tabs of the results and the paperwork. And yeah, you do learn a lot. I don't claim to know all my onions though...

Next show for me is on the 21st - I'm stewarding in sections 4 & 5, so will be handling breeds like Asians, Russians, Bengals, Abyssinians, Ocicats, Devon Rex and Burmese.

His dad is a pedigree ragdoll and his mum is a jet black moggie. His colours are changing over time, no idea how he'll end up. He's only 11-12 weeks old.

We lost two in the last couple of months, both 16/17 years old. I could see it affected my wife, hence the new kitten. Worked a treat, she's devoted to him. (It affected me too but, cough, I'm a bloke and supposedly immune to all that)

My aunt had a Siamese some years back, very vocal to put it mildly! Interesting, I'd be useless at that, I would just spend all my time fussing the cats and forget to do any of the administrative duties 😂

Horrible company to deal with. I'm struggling to return a watch to them and their Returns procedure allows only 14 days to get it to them and their required web RMA request form submitted ... and ignored. Currently at 4 days wasted no RMA acknowledgement though it has registered on their system (for form submitted OK). Won't buy from them again. Or rather Luminox which is same company.

Oh, but cuddling the cats is part of the job description. ESPECIALLY for a household pet judge.

That's me, judging at the Cambridgeshire Cat Club show earlier this year, courtesy of Lyn, my steward for the day. Household pets are judged on temperament (the real biggie), personality, presentation and condition. To keep things on a watchy front, I'm wearing a 1972 automatic Tissot Seastar on a milanese strap.

Siamese and Orientals are great conversationalists and love to be a part of everything their Humans do. They're very much the Border Collies of the the cat world.

Here's my most recent purchase, a few months back now
WIN_20250610_18_16_25_Pro.jpg

An aliexpress homage to the Seiko SKX. Has an NH36 movement, saphire chrystal, ceramic bezel 120 click.
Came on a rubber strap, much like the original, then I tried a nato, now on an oyster style bracelet.
The originals, discontinued now, still go for high prices, this one does it for me and only 52 quids :okay:

Some things I just won’t buy online, new watches among them, I just prefer the service from retailers and let them have the trouble in the unlikely event of it going wrong. Localish Mondaine dealer obtained and fitted a replacement tritium hand, even though he knew I had bought the watch cheap from a charity shop, I got the same service as if I was splashing out for a top line divers watch.

I may have to look further into judging then 😄Beautiful, he/she looks just like my mom's cat, George.

Lovely tissot, milanese are one of my favourite straps, very underrated.

He's one of my favourite cats on the show bench at the moment - such a gentle cuddlebug with a penchant for shoe laces. He's a rescue cat, abandoned with a shattered leg at a vet - whose orthopaedic specialist just happened to be on site that day.

Thank you xxx The Tissot was a Xmas pressie to self a few years back. It's on the left in the pic below. What I love about Milanese straps is that they're infinitely adjustable as well as being supremely comfortable - all three of these watches are on them, the one on the right is a variant that's got a segmented rolled gold overlay. The Milanese, complete with Seiko-branded clasp, is original to that Seiko.

I like my cats the way I like my women, big and ginger.
