I'm originally from Wolverhampton, which could be Wulvurhampton in local black country spake
Sadly it must rank amongst the vile villes of this fair land

I really liked Wolverhampton when I lived there, and still do. I moved there twenty years ago from Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales, and I stayed for seventeen years. It's like a big village rather than a city - everyone seems to know everyone else.

Hull's not too bad either, in my experience. Everywhere's got good and bad points, a lot depends on your attitude.

You're right, the good folk are great, the bad un's less so, same as anywhere really.

I moved away in '79 after 22 mostly great years. It's the town that's depressing, when visiting family & friends I never go into the centre. It's the same in countless city & town centres, for a variety of reasons; reduced to shadows of what they once were, all non descript chainstores and bad town planning.

It does indeed have an excellent fish'n'chip shop. Best in the world? Arguably.
I have conducted extensive research into my local ones and have only found one that I wouldn't bother with again. Hull thus is the epicenter of good fish'n'chips. It also has an obesity problem, which I suspect is related.
I intended to continue my research and cover a wider area (geographic that is, not me personally) during the coming year.

'Course it is, it's in Yorkshire. We do good fish 'n' chips, us Yorkshire folk. It's because we fry them in beef dripping, not vegetable oil.
