My original plan was to add more to the ones on my arms in a sort of freestyle, 'find an artist who can improvise' sort of a way. If anyone's got some spare cash they want to donate ...

All of my tattoo's was done that way. It wasn't really a plan I just told the artist that I wanted traditional Japanese Kimono style, so using the 4 elements (Earth, Water, Air, Fire) as a base, came up with what I have. Mixing in Dragons (3), Demons (2), Fish (4), A Bird, A Phoenix, Snakes (2),(One snake wraps around my wrist, all the way up my arm and finishes on my shoulder the other around my other wrist) and Flowers, smoke, swirls and what have you.

Alas, yes, damn near broke my heart as he was a fantastic old boy. Still, three months later I had a breakdown and the whole herd had to go, so at least he got a proper send off.

I know HFW would sneer at me but I don't think I could eat a pig I'd nurtured.

I know, I know, I'm a soft old pussycat at heart. Everyone says so;)

I'd rather a smallholder's pig than intensively-reared destined-for-the-supermarket. Quite apart from the welfare issues, free-range and spoiled rotten with belly rubs tastes so much better.

Jo, I agree about the taste but it's separating a pet from a food source I'd find hard.

It's not easy, not at all. I was always flippant about it, but that was just to make it easier. First time I sent a pig off, I told myself that if I couldn't raise and eat my own pigs, then I shouldn't eat meat at all. That helped, as did culling my own chickens and preparing them for the pot. For me, there's much more guilt attached to eating supermarket meat than from my own animals.
