My wife is keen to shred any bank, identifying letters but I've just had to take the second shredder back which has broken. I deliberately only put a max of 2 sheets at a time but it failed after 2 weeks.
The first was a Fellowes and the second a PC World own brand - both about £30.
The cog wheels, I discovered, were made of plastic and splintered in both cases.
Any recommendations for a better make?

*Burglar's note to self: check round the back of OTH's house for black bags full of documents when next in Basingstoke*

Shredders have to be strong. £30 ones are not going to last. Think in terms of £100 +/- if you're going to be doing any significant amount of shredding and want it to last years rather than months. It's a bugger, but there's no way of getting round it in my experience.

Mine all goes in the compost bin. Occasionally, I'll have shoved it through the shredder in the office first, but not often.

I shred all my stuff at work also after breaking two mini-shredders at home.

Only felt the need to shred my stuff after having my rubbish stolen for the second time two weeks in a row.
