How does it compare to last years ride?
Which I am not ashamed to say was the hardest ride I have ever done

I agree that last year was a tough one, the climb up and over the Long Mynd was very cruel. In fact I have never seen so many people walking as I did that day.

As for this year, well the organiser claims on the web site that this is going to be the easiest one for years? But to be honest that remains to be seen I think?

I am riding this year with my dad who is 63 (its a fathers day thing) we rode as well last year. Have not had to walk up a hill in years and didn't like it but some of the hills were monsters.

Hopefully I can redeem myself this year. It didn't help that we had to cycle to and from Craven Arms after the ride as there was engineering works that day and no trains, it added another 18 miles or so onto the 72.

Dont get me wrong I was really glad I did it though! Still slighty worried when the route map states "Big Climb".

Good luck to everyone that gives it a crack

Steve

Done. Thought I was doing really well until the headwind from the last check point to Ludlow caught me. Clearly hit the wall riding thought the gate at Ludlow up to the town centre then down to the rugby club. Does anyone know who was taking the photos on the last nasty climb?

What a cracking day, camped overnight under the shadow of Ludlow Castle, then off on the ride. Some cracking scenery, beautiful weather, well organised stops ( even if no2 seemed a little close to no 1.
Not as bad as last yeay but still some tough climbs, the first one especially which saw quite a few reminding us they aren't called 'pushbikes' for nothing
Chappeau to all the riders who make these events great fun tandem riders in crocs etc

All the photos are here

It was a shame that the last bit was on the main road, spoilt a good ride I thought?

And we camped! We were the large family tent next to the club house.

We saw all your lot like a swarm of orange wasps at every stop.

I also agree that the second stop wasn't needed, far to close to be of any benefit.

Never the less, what a great days riding, and wasn't that first climb a real sod. Just when you thought it was over, up it went again. :o)
