sick of my standard brakes

I have the standard bb5s i think that come with my boardman comp hybrid. they have no stopping power what so ever and have been to get fixed so many times. since im looking to go all carbon, i have been looking at avid juicys, can anyone vouch for them? also will it be possible to switch over to calipers, will the standard wheels accept them on my cboard and do the disks just unscrew off? Thanks

Hello mate
You want me to set up the BB5's for you, I'll show you how and it only take a few minutes for each brake.

you won't be able to fit normal calipers (rim brake types) on the Boardman due to the rims not being compatible with rim brakes.

You can add Avid juicys if you like, it's not difficult to switch them over as long as the calipers are matched to the rotor I.E 180mm disc brake to 180mm rotor.

I have BB5's on my boardman comp and whilst they are a pain to adjust ive never experienced any problems stopping... Could you have a fault somewhere?

Guess they have been adjusted incorrectly, they then rubbed and have been backed off too much to stop the rub and now don't stop. Either give Norm a ring or switch to BB7.

A bit of a daft question, have you checked the pad wear?

Still running the stock BB5 resin pads? Awful things ime. They do benefit from being bedded in quite aggressively (30-5mph 2 or 3 times down hill) but the calipers improve greatly with with the use of sintered pads. Nukeproof Enduro are my pads of choice for BB5.

Never had any complaints with BB5s - on a flat bar bike I would probably go with hydraulic though.

Inpulse buy just after i made thread on ebay for some carbon avid juicys and tbh not sure on rotor size

p.s Norm i am going to find a fault on my bike just to let you have a go at it since you'ed offered so many times

Upgrade by all means, but don't spend unnecessarily... it's not a big job to get them performing well. Speakto Norm, OR have a go using this guide

Ah, Discobrakes - that's the brand I was trying to think of. Yep, I use those with BB5s and they are only a couple of quid delivered on ebay (much cheaper than on that discobrakes site!)
