I have to admit that I am very fussy about my cycling shoes, in fact if truth be told, I'm very fussy about most things.

But once I find something that either fits or works, then I tend to stop with that product to the bitter end, be shorts, tyres, helmets or shoes etc etc

Now as I have wide feet, my shoe of choice is the Sidi Mega, size 43 fitted with the blue Specialized Body Geometry inserts, for me this is a absolute perfect combination.

Sadly the time has come where I really need a replacement pair of SPD shoes. But can I find any, not a chance! I have spent literally days searching and looking and still nothing?

Despite being my shoe of choice the very thought of paying £200 or even £300+ fills me with utter horror and disbelief that anyone would even consider paying that much money for a pair of shoes.

However, I think that I'm at that stage now, when I just need to find a pair regardless of cost!

And while I'm open to maybe trying another brand, but where can you go these days to try shoes on? Its all mail order, so that's the first week gone waiting for them to arrive. If they don't fit, returning them, another week gone. Next, waiting for the refund, yet another week gone.

I just want to buy a pair of Sidi Mega SPD shoes, size 43!!!!

The options are only ever going to be going to a LBS or going mail order / internet.

Most LBS will only stock one or two brands. I don't think it's unreasonable to call up an LBS saying you've heard good things about X brand and you want to try them but you've also heard good things about Y brand they don't stock so you are going somewhere else too. If you are organised enough and near a big city, you can cover several big brands on a single 'visit to town'. That's what I would do anyway.

Of course if you really want to take the mick you could then buy from the cheapest internet provider, but I definitely understand why that would p off the LBS's.

Ebay. I'm a Shimano 43/44 in the older sole, so having got M089 shoes and MW7 winter boots, I bought hardly used additional pairs off ebay as these were out of production. I then bought some newer gravel shoes, and the sole pattern is narrower ! Not ideal but the shoes are OK.

I have Lake wide fitting shoes as a replacement for Sidi’s. My best pair of Sidi’s the Velcro has just about given up the ghost. So hence needing some new shoes. So there’s a small LBS in Northallerton which stock Lakes,he didn’t have my size in stock but he had a foot measuring tool and ordered me a pair which fit well. I did buy a different model of Lake shoes of the web in the same size but they don’t feel as comfy. This might due to a more ridged sole rather than width etc.
I did read Sidi megas have the same sole/ last as normal Sidi’s but there is more material in the uppers.

Oh yes, forgot to mention, l hate Velcro straps with venom! The Velcro is knackered after twelve months and you then cannot really tighten the shoe.
So Boa fasteners are 100% my fixture of choice, forget laces to!!
