I saw a gold finch in my garden on Sunday - it's a really nice sight.
Gorgeous birds and they make the most cheerful racket. A bunch of them immigrated here a couple of years ago.

Sorry about the cheap camera ineptly handled but it's about the bird.

I had to scrape my car this morning. And the weathergirl warns of the possibility of snow in the next day or two. Spring is in the air...

We have eight bird feeders strung up in our tiny garden. The squirrels and pigeons are amazinly clever in their attempts to rob them . One particular blackbird has mastered a way of hovering alongside a feeder like a humming bird. The feeder has a tiny hole designed for tits and goldfinches exclusively. He worked out how to get round the problem and spends his whole day stuffing his beak.
A fox was asleep in the sun yesterday, ten metres from the back door, and then lazily walked down the top of the garden fences to find a better lounger. Who would have guessed all that activity in London W14 ?

first Chiffchaff is the benchmark I use to signify the prelude of spring. It's little cousin, the Willow Warbler (usually a week or so later than the Chiffchaff) has to be one of the most beautiful sounds on earth.
First Chiffchaff on my patch, last year was 14th March. We are some way off that so I'll take heart with the Snowdrops that are starting to bloom

I've seen a few signs of Autumn here, which is good because I've had a bellyful of these heatwaves, and right now the Melbourne air is full of smoke, thanks to some nasty bushfires scattered through the metropolitan area. I hope Winter is very long, cold and wet!

Loads of snowdrops in flower here and even the odd daff. The first swallow has reached Europe from Africa - ( Gibraltar Feb 6th) along with a few house martins. Any other signs of Spring to cheer us up amidst the winter gloom?
Yeah my golf fee renewal has popped through the door ..... a sure sign of the oncoming spring .....and another bill to be payed
