Does anyone actually pay any attention to such signs anyway? It's not like we don't have enough signs already. Especially if the driver's attention really should be on the road in front of them rather than the signs beside it.

A cyclist should ride assertively in primary where necessary to prevent dangerous overtakes ...........
That can be more than a little dangerous on a series of sharp bends.

There are signs in, I think, Penicuik telling drivers not to overtake cyclists at the traffic islands.

They need to tell them this?

From experience on the roads in Edinburgh & Leith, yes! Experience has taught me to take primary as far in advance of a traffic island as is practical to prevent them even beginning to think about it. Even then, some of them will still try and usually overtake on the other side of the island at speed.

First I've seen of it, I'd be happy with more in the right places. 1.5m sounds like a good distance to me, tbh though I just hate it when cars either get too close for comfort because they're idiots, or when the think they're past you and start to pull in again...yet they're still alongside you.

Somebody in a van managed the double today. Not only did he pass me too close/cut in, he managed to get the lights from an oncoming van. There was some kind of obstruction ahead and I was gaining on the vehicles that had already passed me, so there wasn't really anything to be gained by overtaking dangerously.
