thats because there is now a minimum distance between the bonnet and the engine block of a car, the jag's bonnet is too near to the block to pass the safety test so the engineers made the bonnet pop up.

the thin aluminum is due to it being cheaper and also saves weight, aiding the fuel consumption.

in the uk jaguars are not sold with the 'leaping cat' due to safety regulations preventing anything on the bonnet that can catch on someone.

RR's spirit drops into the grill and Merc's 3 pointed star bends out the way.

the cat doesn't move. you do see some people with them fitted tho.

I know.

in my opinion its the mitsubishi shogun that is the worst, the bull bars stand proud of the vehicle by quite a long way, complete with spot lights etc

some vehicles do work in an environment that they need the bars,

modern landrover bars are actually about as soft as being hit by an average people carrier but still stout enough to protect the vehicle from a robust bush (the purpose of the bars)

They're called 'A bars'. Thick rubber coating.

Trad 'Bull bars' can only be shipped to non-ECE markets.

Idea two, inspired by the motorbike 'think' campaign thread. It's not quite having a massive flashing sign (which would be cool), but similar to the first one, but just reads a short message, in a large font, like, "Hi, I'm Tom, a 19 year old student and I cycle 30 miles a day for work."....just sort of a "Yes, I'm a person too" type message.

I'm sure you'll agree...pretty awesome ideas . And yes, it'll probably be introduced into cycle craft soon

Amazing, I was having exactly the same thought running through my mind coming home this evening - getting one of those programmable LED signs and sticking it on the back of my pack with a selection of pre-programmed messages possible from some button control on the handlebars. Admittedly, this was because some arse was tailgating me as I'd taken up a very convincing primary position to prevent the car from overtaking me. Have to admit, the messages weren't quite so person-centric as your's. More like "The closer you get the slower I'll go" kind of thing.

Great minds, eh........

Mine was just a bit of lamented paper...but a programmable LED sign could work too

The first is get a nice big picture of a scantily clad, beautiful women (get the free poster in zoo/nuts, something like that)...and attach it to your rucksack (or back...but that seems a bit weirder). Then, when Mr Van Man, or someone impatient comes along they might be more willing to wait a few minutes till it is safe if they've got a bit of eye candy to pass the time.
Do give it a go, thomas, and let us know how you get on.

In general I think this is a good idea and one that's been going through my mind recently too. When I wear my "fun" tops (the marmite one and the reflector skeleton) I get much more consideration and friendliness shown to when I wear normal and plain high viz stuff. It's almost like having something with a logo or caption makes you seem more approachable? Or does it just make people smile and therefore diffuse some of their anger?

I find the opposite - when I wear a standard flourescent yellow top with retroflective silver strips I find most motorists take note of the speed I am travelling at before deciding I am a crawler to be overtaken at all costs.

It seems the worman's yellow/silver top makes me more "official" or maybe a more serious cyclist.
