I have a pair of 700 x 17 rims that i want to use on an off road bike. Will tyres described as '29ers' fit ? I've been looking around on google and such for the last 2 hours and am more confused now than when I started

I hadnt seen that post..... All the ones I read strarted by saying 'no', then went on to say 'maybe', or started 'yes' then followed up with a 'maybe not' and one even said that 29er wheels (not tyres) where 2 inches bigger than 700's so couldnt possibly be interchangable. ! Must be a post from the mechanic from Performance on your link
I just wanted a bit of reassurance from a forum I trusted. Ta for that link though

I'm no expert - that's for sure
I would think you will have to figure out max width but the link above mentions 35mm... I seem to recall there being a formula for calculating max tyre width for a given rim width. I think a 15 (or it might be a 17) wide 700c rim can accept 28mm max. Somebody who actually knows what they're talking about should hopefully be along soon
