...curtain advice.

Yes..I'm embarrassed to say that I am clueless in the soft furnishings dept. Having fully renovated my flat from pigsty to palace myself I find myself staring into to abyss that is usually filled by a member of the fairer sex...
The curtain fitting nightmare.

So ..has anybody had any good experiences of the curtain fitting scenario? Where is a good place to get CHEAP curtains fitted? I went to a local curtain specialist but couldn't get a mortgage big enough.

Being a single guy I want somebody to do all this for me for nothing ideally lol!

I have five big windows and two others for blinds.

I tried measuring them all myself but got totally confused and went for a ride instead.

Maybe it really is time I got.me a new woman...hmm..anyway

Where did y'all get your curtains sorted?

I'd rather eat broken glass than tackle this job myself.

Are batman curtains still cool?

Try a good branch of Dunelm. After you've measured up what you need first. They have some decent curtains, ready made, at non mortgage prices.

I've had curtains from Dunelm, usually in the sales. My windows are around 7' high and 8' tall so I need to keep the cost down.

I also have a friend who happens to find cheap/free curtains for me.

The thing to work out is whether you want curtains that sit within your window reveal or cover the whole of the reveal. Also if you want them to rest on the window board or come down to the floor you measure the drop from where the curtain rail will be to where you want the bottom of the curtains to end.
That determines your measurements.

If you want curtains that are nicely pleated then you need to have the width 1.5 times the opening width. If you want them really luxurious then go for 2 times the opening width. Don't forget that it is usually two curtains on a window. So for my 8' wide windows I would have two 6' or two 8' wide curtains with the drop that I need.

Then there is lined and non lined and black out to consider.

Dunelm Mill have a website and here you can see the standard sizes of ready-made curtains. I just chose plain blue ones, as I am not sure what colours you might like.^_^ You might also find their Buying guides useful for more info about linings, curtain poles etc.

As Night Train says, you need to be very careful about the width.

I agree with Compo about looking in Charity Shops for Curtains.

Make sure the means of attaching the curtains is what you want...traditional hooks, shower curtain style or 'pass thru the pole' style, for example. But hey, dont hassle me, man, I dont know jack 'bout these things.

I'm thinking I.might get a boddo round to measure up...

The lady in the local.curtain shop was an oberstornenfuhrer in the wi.
