Yesterday for the first time ever in Swindon I saw someone riding a single speed bike, then today another one, definitely not the same one.
Almost got caught by the first one, as I was taking it easy warming up plus he decided to blast across some zebra crossings and non-shared pavements in order to take a nice short cut. Had a good view of the second one as I went past, he was just getting going from a standing start and I was already whizzing along with lots of momentum.
I am very suprised it's taken so long as Swindon is perfect for single speed bikes as it is basically flat apart from one decent climb which can easily be avoided.

Here for rides.
what is the point of ss in a flat town? Tell to ride fixed!

If they are young uns they may be returning students who have adopted ss/fixed in the Great Wen where it is all the rage.

Maybe they like freewheeling, not too sure if I'd fancy not being able to freewheel.

It takes a while for new trendy stuff to reach Swindon from London, a year or two at least, we still only have one ASL.

ASL's are trendy? Great. Perhaps they might catch on in Sussex. If you think Swindon is behind the times......

I remember reading a government issued document about ASL's, they had a nice pictures of Swindon's ASL not mentioning the fact it is the only one and lots of drivers don't have a clue.

SS/fixed are getting more visible in Peterborough too.
Young guy on a black raleigh type racer SS last year, nice and minimalist looking, a guy i see regularly on a quite newer SS drop bar and i was just walking alongside the wife wednesday when a young guy went past on a flat bar SS, nice looker (the bike, not him)...one of those moments when your looking at his bike...as he's looking at yours.
My SS's still at work, has been for the last 6 months or so. Tried it, found the enjoyment short lived, parked it, left it
