i understand that certain springy running shoes are already banned... so this newfangled version of the same thing is unlikely to be allowed in proper competitive events.

I have often wondered what a man running 60mph would look like. There was a character from The Water Margin, or it may have been Monkey, who ran very fast, but his stride length was ridiculously long.
