Was walking with OH through a housing estate on Sat, saw an old bloke on a bike, light on top of helmet, hi-vis, the lot. OH was staring after him. Took me a while to realise why - the old geezer was riding in secondary on the right hand side of the road. No cars approached while he was in sight, but we did wonder why/what would happen...

Maybe, but still very dangerous!!! i dont know how far it is between emergency phones,cant be more that 1k? sure someone one here would know

They are 1km apart with marker posts every 100m pointing towards the nearest phone, so you are never more than 500m from the closest. about as dangerous as walking, unless you walk well off the hard shoulder through the long grass!
how can skateboarding on the hardshoulder be as dangerous as walking? if you hit a stone you could fall into the road,or send the skateboard into the fast moving traffic

Saw some kid on one of those scooter things on the (old) A1 late this morning, just the top side of the Brotherton turn-offs (where you join the 'Tadcaster Turn-Pike'), as I was riding up it
It was very quiet, now downgraded, & redesignated the 'A ??.'
