I have some fond childhood (well, teenage) memories of Skegness.

I went back there in my 20s, with a couple of friends, We had an 'altercation' in a nightclub, and basically got beaten up. Then I was nearly arrested... they picked up one of the perps, and I tried to have a pop at him. I think all concerned were very drunk, except for the police. Who (once everyone had calmed down) basically told us he was well-known locally, they couldn't really charge or hold him, and that our best bet was to leave town in the morning! So we did. Me with a very bruised abdomen and a massive black eye.

Yeah I have heard that Jolly Fisherman was a bit of a bruiser in his time!!

Skeggy is merely the perineum of the UK. The true peanut is Ingoldmels just up the coast. Biggest market in Europe, or something. Yes, if you want BB guns or knock-off Kappa. I bet the fish and chips are fake, too...

My stepsons got a caravan at Ingoldmels, a few weeks ago we had a good week there, having had my arteries rodded a few years ago I no longer eat fish and chips, what I liked there was the all you can ea Italian on the corner, walk in pay at the counter then help yourself to as much as you want.

Thread resurrection! Another chippy sufficiently far from Skeggy to be good, Kyme Road Chippy in Heckington. North of the village centre, on a minor road towards South Kyme, at about TF146446. Had some superb, and cheap (£4.15) haddock and chips here yesterday after watching the very competitive grass track racing at the Heckington Show.
I've been out of the loop for too long...£4.15 for fish and chips!!! It's been quite a few years since I last went to a chippy but that seems extortionate!!!

Yes those sort of prices make me glad I don't eat fish and chips anymore.

Have some prespective please. £4.15 isnt much money for a takeaway meal anymore, how much do you think you should pay for cod and chips?

I know it's probably a fair price - just shocked at how much it had gone up without me realising. It's the same as bus fares...my son wanted to go on a bus journey to the next village and my wife told me I'd need to get a tenner out!!!

My local chippy on Carlton Hill only charges £3.10 for small haddock and chips, but the Heckington ones were bigger portions* and top quality. I've paid more for inferior quality, e.g. Tates in Boston ( generally reckoned to be pretty much top notch ), so thought I'd give the Kyme Road one a thumbs up :hungry:.

* Mrs Poacher couldn't finish hers, despite both of us having had nowt since breakfast but a couple of doughnut peaches, so that was my lunch the next day sorted!

I believe that's the one which was built at the same time as Tesco's, virtually in the car park. Rather a short-lived place, closed down about 2 years ago (maybe 3?) and has stood empty and deteriorating ever since. Waste of a potentially useful building - hostelry which could be resurrected as a hostel, for example!

Yes that's the one...worked as a bar man/waiter for a year...was a very cool job and the people who worked there were great. Sad that it's gone and that the building's just going to ruin :-(

Further info: it was closed as a result of the combined greed of two evil conglomerates, Greene King, infamous locally for buying the Kimberley brewery, promising to keep it open, and closing it within about 3 months of purchase, and Tesco, infamous nationally for, er, just doing what Tesco does. I lifted this from the Nottingham Post of 25/11/2008:
"The Windsor Castle, in Carlton Hill, could be pulled down after owners Greene King sold the land to Tesco.
An exhibition took place in the Tesco store over the weekend with almost 2,000 leaflets explaining the plans handed out to shoppers.
The local branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has opposed the loss of the pub, which is set to remain open as usual for the next 17 months.
A spokeswoman for Tesco said: "Many shoppers completed feed back forms and an overwhelming majority supported the redevelopment ideas, agreeing that the current store and car park were in need of improvement."
Tesco Corporate Affairs Manager Tony Fletcher, said: "We are looking to completely redevelop the Carlton store to provide our customers with both a modern shopping experience and much needed car parking improvements, plus 200 local jobs."

The redevelopment has never taken place.
