Powder skiing is just about the most fun thing available in this life.

Skiing seems like an expensive way to risk wrecking your knees, in an environment full of people who are mainly nobbers.

I did a couple of snowboarding lessons a few years ago, and although I could never imagine myself ever wanting to do it properly, I could at least see the attraction of a snowboard, as opposed to skis.

Amen to that. That real light stuff that floats up as your diving through it. Nothing beats it. BUT it takes guts and more than a couple of trips to the alps to be at the point where you can do it.

I hate snow so I probably wouldn't like skiing because I can't see how a few minutes (have no idea how long it takes to ski down a hill but it can't take long) excitement could outweigh the tedious hanging about and getting back up to the top again, the cold, wearing loads of stuff to keep the cold out, failing to keep the cold out, the probable expense of it all, the likelihood I'd break my leg and... oh yeah I hate snow. Mate of mine loves it though, but I couldn't be arsed with it all.

It's like bungee jumping. Huge risk (IMO) and excitement that lasts seconds. Wow. I'd rather do something that's exciting and lasts longer than the time it takes to put the kit on. And I don't mean THAT either !

F70100

Who, me ?
I seem to be in a minority here but I love it. Can't get Mrs F70100 onto the slopes but we both enjoy the spa/sauna/steamroom stuff in the Austrian hotels.

Tis pricey but worth it for us once every 2 or 3 years.

Austria is fantastic. Skiing in the tree line and down tracks is so much more fun than the motorway pistes in industrial centres. Austrian hotels in smaller resorts are amazing. They all void your wallet though. Quickly.

I think it was three years ago I paid a couple of local lads to prep my cross-country skies as i couldn't be bothered myself. Still standing there in the cellar 'prepped'.

This xmas my soon-to-be 3-year-old was to get his first skis from his grandmother (quite a big deal here) and i'd have to teach him everything i know. The, unusually, warm weather and lack of snow means his first great disappointment in his father will be put off til next year.

I used to enjoy it, but i'm just too knackered these days.
