Skiing - do you love it, loath it or simply not interested?

You almost sell it to me there! I just think it's miles too late for me to start, physically as well as mentally.

Just to tempt you a bit more, I have often skied in temperatures of 26C and the snow isn't melting at 3000 meters, I have also been very privileged to experience champagne powder that was so deep it was over my head. dr_pink doesn't do the downhill stuff, she goes off on cross country skis or snow shoeing and absolutely loves it. Here she is coming down at around 2000 meters in Bardonecchia

I had a spell of going skiing each winter before my children arrived. Loved it, but I haven't been for a few years. Here's me on Mammoth mountain (near Lake Tahoe on the California/Nevada border) about 8 years ago.

I quite fancy cross-country skiing rather than downhill, but given that I hardly ever get the chance to go on a proper holiday, I side with dave r - I would rather go somewhere warm with my bike. If I could afford 4 holidays a year, maybe I would make one of them a winter one.

Just back from my 3rd ski trip out in Andorra with my brother and his family, absolutely loved it. Love being out in the open, expending some energy with some incredible views followed by a few beers in the evening. I am very cautious as I know the damage it can do, but it's no worse that some of the other things I've done in the past. Wish I'd started years ago, but either couldn't afford it or was ploughing my money into other silly activities.

Had a skiing holiday once, mid 1980's in Seefeld (a beautful place) with my then fiancee. I didn't enjoy it one bit, spent the second week ice skating by myself in the local outdoor rink. Glad I tried it but it's not for me.

I love the snow. I love the cold. One of my favourite holidays was to Lapland. But I'm with @swansonj - downhill skiing is cheating (as well as dangerous and too middle-class for words). I'd love the chance to learn cross-country skiing - for the same reason that I love cycling.

Just back from 4 days in the French Pyrenees. Idea conditions, snowed the first day, then brilliant warm sunny mornings. Very early in the season on those mountains so fairly quiet over the holidays.
Southend to Barcellona, then a two and half hour drive, so only 5 hours away.

Piste skiing is quite simply the most exhilarating sport that a non-sporty person can enjoy without too much practice, especially with today's equipment, which is so easy to use.

Ski touring is the connoisseur's choice, the climbing action is smooth, efficient and very similar to that of cycling and the reward is always ample for the effort, especially if you get lucky and find some good snow.
