Saved this Carrera Gryphon from the skip this week.Frame is alloy and free of battle scars,wheel hubs are rumbling so i will change the wheels for a set i have lying around in the garage (as you do ! ) Brakes are Textro jobbies like the ones on my Boardman SC comp so i know they are up to the job.Sadly the frame is a tad small,possibly 16" at the most so it looks like this little project could be Mrs Skud's "new" bike for the trails...i'm too good to her ! Have a look and tell me what you think and maybe what you know of the breed.

That's not bad at all, is it?

Doesn't look to have frame protectors on, so I'd pop those on to protect the paint - suspect given the rust on the bolt heads, those could do with some grease on their threads (worth checking, at least) but that looks like a tidy freebie to me.

It has a bad case of rusty bolts everywhere but i have a box of stainless capped head ones from my days of playing with cars so they should do the job along with a good T-cut on the frame.I have some stoneguard material to protect the frame (Porsche item from work ! ) I guess with it being a Carrera it will be a Halfords own brand jobbie.All in all it will keep me out of trouble for a while and possibly away from having to do more DIY in the house if i'm quiet enough in the garage !

Don't worry,i know the owner of the skip ! Thankfully i was on a school run and saw it whilst walking the kids.Bike was just not used as you can see from the rust,back wheel has missing spokes and both hubs are foobarred so i guess they thought it was just rubbish.....not to me !
Completly stripped now and just greasing up everything i can and seeing if i can clean the rust up.It won't get as much abuse as my bikes so i do not have to go mad on it,just make it work and stop
Wish it was a bit bigger,it would make a good winter hack and save the one's i paid good money for to enjoy as weekend toys.

A bit like my computer monitor then I was dumping some grass cuttings at the local tip when out the corner of my eye I noticed a Guy about to dump a newish looking Samsung Monitor into the skip I shouted over to Him & was told the only reason it was being dumped was because it had just been replaced by an all singing flat screen jobbie nothing wrong with this one it was just not wanted I transfered it into my boot & its worked fine ever since thats over 12 months ago Ones Mans rubbish is another Mans Gold! Forks are back on and greased up along with the rear brake and handlebars and spare 700c wheels i had.Job stopped at the point when Mrs Skud asked when was i going to finish painting the kitchen i started earlier !!!

Amazing what some people throw out! We've been banned from bringing bikes back from the tip, at least until the new kitchen is installed, and painted, and the garden wall is built. You never know though, if there's one screaming for rescuing then it may find a place.

Not you as well on th kitchen front ! Been up to my whotsits finishing off our kitchen but i did sneak out and do a bit on the find for an hour or so until i got summoned by my six year old !!
