Just a reminder that Sky City ride is on this weekend around Bolton , weather looks good so should be a good day to get out with the kids for a steady plod around city centre closed roads.

And as Mick Garvey (Benidorm) would say

Its Freeeeee

A group of us are leaving Heaton Park and doing a ride up to Haslingden and Darwen and back down to Bolton for the sky ride. Anyone is welcome to join us, we are riding as a group and at the pace of the slowest rider. Meet at Heaton Park golf club at 8.30am.

Not for me this year, I spent every lap last year playing dodge the ankle biter whose parents couldn't give a flying fig where they where on the road.

I doubt there will be, but if any of them are reading this, please be courteous and keep right.

I know it's not a race and I'm not suggesting it to become one, but people naturally cycle at different paces and dawdling along the white line in the middle of the road isn't going to win you any friends.

Ride safe y'all

I know what you mean ..

It's an amended route this year, and from what it looks like, there'll be some 'interesting' fun in queens park..
they've setup a shorter and a longer loop and they appear to merge in the middle of the park on fairly narrow paths.... tbh can't quite work out what they expect, but no doubt it'll be made clear tomorrow..

I'd be mad not to go on it though, since the route goes past my house ( well 50yrds from it  )

great fun!
had a few rides round , met some friends who were tootling round with their daughter and had a nice coffee in the park..

yep as expected , bit narrow through the bottom of the park and I can't understand why people feel it's acceptable to force their way past "blokes and daughters" ( seemed to be a few guys with nice road bikes cycling round with daughters on bright pink bikes : ) , I mean, she's on training wheels, its only for a short distance, wait, practice track standing ;)
but overall better route than last year by having an alternative which avoids a moderately steep bit that some youngsters struggled on ( saw the ambulance picking up some poor kid who was suspiciously close to some potholes)..

they seemed to be doing a 'try a bike' thing for kids and halfords were there with "we'll fix your bike" tents.. don't remember them from last year?

There is already a female rider coming with us, you ar emore than welcome to join us.
What a super day and thankyou very much for making me feel really welcome. The scenery....gulp hills  out of Bury and up over Ramsbottom towards Haslingdon were spectacular! It was then great when we wound our way over to Bolton to see Bolton come alive with cycling in full force - young & old.

Thanks
KS

I am glad you enjoyed the ride. It was a little faster than I was expecting, but a great day out, the weather was good and a nice route. I will have to save that one to do again at some point. Feel free to join us again at any time.

What a great day it was.
With regards comments on ankle biters in the road , its a family event and I love seeing all the kids out on there bikes, what i did enjoy was riding up the hill (it was no Alp) at the side of the park with my daughter on her tag a long and passing people in full team kit puffing and panting to the top ,,, made me smile (and what was did the lad on the time trial bike in full GB team skin suit look like going down paths in the park)

Jason Kenny was there but signing autographs ,, still reckon we could have had him up that hill , he looked a bit weedy. .
