I once bought two inner tubes with slime puncture sealant in and both didn't work. The tyres still went down when they got punctures and even though I did what it said on the instructions, pumped more air in and spun the wheel, it still kept going down. Further more it was impossible to repair the tubes either as the wet sealant kept leaking out so the glue for patch couldn't dry. The punctures were also tiny as well, far, far less that the 3millimetre holes which are the maximum size it claims to be able to fix.

So what tyres do you 'assume' I am using then?

No idea! I was responding to the OP who seems to be going through the same phase I did several years ago. Having no experience of mountain biking I'll leave that aspect to your expert opinion.

i used it in my mtb tyres after getting too many punctures (cheaper than new tyres) which did make a difference. once one of them punctured though, the tubes were unrepairable so i decided to pinch the slicks from my wife's bike.

Odd, I manage to repair mine ok, using TipTop patches?

After every three of four rides I whip the tubes out and give them a good inspection. Anywhere there is a green pimple, stick a patch on it. OK its probably overkill, and I am sure that they don't need it, but why chance it?

They have done the job, punctured and stayed inflated on the day, that's all that matters to me. If it saves me getting covered in mud changing tubes, then its a small price to pay.

But to be fair, I have on occasions had a tube completely deflate, and I have had to reflate it once or twice in order to get the Slime to work. But I have never had it not work at all.

I have been using Slime tubes for the last five years, starting with the normal ones then changing over the Slime Lites a couple of years ago, coz the std ones are chuffing heavy!

Must admit mine were the bikehut ones not the originals, but I found them hard to pump up after the first time as green gunk came flying out of the valve

Once several years ago when I was just getting used to mtb riding again, I went through a phase of using slime in tubes and it did (I think) save me a walk of several miles home when I foolishly cycled down a lane one time where the farmer had recently been cutting a hawthorne hedge...

Don't use it nowadays though.
