Slipping seat post

I find the seat post on the old Brommie is slipping a bit these days. I've tried tightening up the seat post bolt, but I can only tighten it up so much before I can't pull the lever to.

When I had this, it was greasy stuff on the seat tube. Have you tried cleaning it?
I gave it a good scrub with alcohol, which was one way of using up the Grappa I bought back from holiday.

IME seat clamps are a 'lifed' part. My 12 yo L5 is on at least it's third. The current 2009 M6L is doing a little better. SJS stock them and these guys too:

Slippage is usually due to greasy surfaces: remove seat post and clean both post and liner with meths. When dry, replace. The liner can be a problem if the clamp has been overtightened. Brompton, or their dealers, should be able to supply one - my local dealer has just fitted a new one to an old B.
