Hi all,

Im looking around now to buy a tent. I think i'd like a 2 man tent so I have abit more room, but I still want it to be small & light. This is more difficult as i would ideally like it to have an adequately sized porch for cooking (not actually cooking inside the tent!) and sticking my panniers in etc at night.

Something like this looks nice http://www.amazon.co...0676454&sr=1-24 and that is my price range give or take 20 quid

What puts me off with this model is that it looks abit too big (wide), and that porch is slightly big. Any recommendations on similar designs but a wee bit smaller/more suitable for touring?

Oh and im not a fan of dome tents - hate the idea of having all those poles, more risk of one snapping!

The other one I had in mind was http://www.amazon.co...0676482&sr=1-30 - now if that had a slightly bigger porch it would be perfect.

what a NIGHTMARE

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Just noticed the pack size of the first tent LOL its abit too big...

I've got one of these, Decathlon T2 Ultralight Pro. 2 Kg.

Porch may not be big enough for you, I managed to fit all 4 paniers in mine without blocking the doorway.

It seems to be available every now and then for £79.

I'd suggest that 2.5Kg is about as heavy as you want to go, though that's a personal choice. your first one is too heavy I'd say. Vango Banshee is another in your price range and 1.85kg. Big enough to keep your panniers inside with you, not sure why you want to keep them in the porch.

It's a cheaper version of the Terra Nova Laser. Small if there's actually 2 of you, but does have floor space for 2 standard mats.

Thats a decent choice. Always seems to crop up as a good buy on various threads. Important things for me were :

1. Speed of erection
rolleyes.gif
... trust me when its dark/ cold / raining and blowing a gale you will be glad you chose a tent that went up quickly...

2. Weight : I went lighter at 1.75kg

3. Porch : Cooking when weather is poor (taking care of course) , keep my shoes dry etc (panniers stayed on the bike).

Have you shopped around re that price..ie ebay its £92

This is a porch shot of mine recently , cold / wet day in the Pyrenees...small porch (Vaude Taurus ultralite) but thats all you need

j-lo, Have that coleman avior x2 myself , porch has enough room for my 4 panniers and i also cook in the front porch, you can also use that side entrance when its full too.
Also have a bigger vango spirit 200+ but like the compact size an quality of the coleman.

i use a Terra nova laser large 1. 1.8kg packed, I use this with and with out the inner tent. On my tour in France, Spain this year i did not use the inner tent and i could get me and my 5 bags in the tent and still cook,( i used my dd travel hammock in the tent because it has a waterproof bottom and built in mosquitoes net, no venting problems and flexible).

In the uk winter i use the inner tent and cook in the front of the tent, I got this tent new 2 years ago on sale for £200 and will be using it for years to come

The key is to find the tent you like and hunt for it, Ebay ant always the best place, you have to look high and low, but don't by crap, Its a major piece of kit and and a good tent will make a big trip good but get the wrong tent and your kick your self.

look at what other people out there are using, people who have web sites and photos of them in far way places and under extreme weather.
you get a good bet of kit and it will last you for a long time, buy once not twice.

read, read, read, look read, look some more, and but the real deal

good luck
