The smell of steam/coal from steam engines.

The smell of coal fires in general. Although there are one or two places I ride through where you can just catch a faint whiff of it.

The smell of steam/coal from steam engines.

My local station had a corrugated iron roof over the stairs leading down to the platform. It always retained the smell of steam engines, even years after they had stopped running, and diesel engines had replaced them.

As a kid there was a Tan Yard in town - a very unusual sickly sweet aroma pervaded the area.

Then there was the abattoir right next to the school playground!!!

The smell that came off those copying machines they used to have in school before photocopiers, where you had to turn a handle that turned a drum and you got one copy per turn, slightly damp...

I've just spent a weekend playing with them so I still get the smell.

I bet you two used to stand on footbridges when the engines would pass underneath leaving you swamped in hot steam and coal smoke. .

I know I did.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

The smell of Preston railway station. It always signalled I was going somewhere or coming back. It still smells the same today

Dandelion and burdock pop and sarsparilla pop in the bottles that you'd get money back on if you took them to the shop. And they say recycling is getting better....
