School dinners. Roast potatoes in particular.
Hot tar they used to do flat roofs. Havn't smelled that in years.
Bracken in local woodland. We were surrounded with it as kids, a very distictive smell. In similar surroundings now...it just doesn't smell the same.

Ooh, we used to live on a deserted airfield. For a couple of years, they had an annual meet of the Vintage Motorcycle Club. What a bunch of loonies  The smell of those engines and burning rubber, the memories stuck with me ever since.

I bet you two used to stand on footbridges when the engines would pass underneath leaving you swamped in hot steam and coal smoke. .

Yes!

...and the smell of our infant school caretaker's pipe... whenever I smell pipe smoke it takes me back.

The interior of a Douglas DC-3 (aka Dakota)

I flew on these as a passenger several times in my long-forgotten youth and quite forgot it..... then one day I was lucky enough to be shown round one of the Air Atlantique pollution control aircraft on the ground at Coventry. The interior has been stripped but the smell took me back 35 years in an instant.

I was one of those little boys who sat on the bridge here and go home smelling of sulphur and steam most Saturday afternoons or school holidays. We moved away from there when I was 5 so was only 4 when my friend and I would go there. I now life near Shackerstone, Battlefield line so can get my fix of sulphur

When I was about 3 years old, my dad did something incredibly stupid - he picked me up and dangled me off a railway bridge when a steam train was thundering by below! It traumatised me ...

I mentioned it to him a couple of years before he died and he was upset to realise that I remembered it. It's not the kind of thing that you tend to forget!
