6 miles and they were already starting to smell? (ignoring that they decided it was break time after only 6 miles).

6 miles and they were already starting to smell? (ignoring that they decided it was break time after only 6 miles).

The issue is often many people who participate in cycling (and this applies to other sports equally) will wear their kit for days at a time without washing.

If they (as a group) stank and other people complained I don't see what the issue is.

You have a point there - I wear my commuting stuff day after day though this is only because I change as soon as I get here so "smelly" never comes into it.

What about bias against the dirty lycra lout tax dodging cyclists? How many people would complain about the scruffy smelly man with the flea bitten dog a few seats from you (etc etc). We've all had a smelly person near us in various situations I am sure - but how many of us actually complain to the establishment about it?

1. If it was that nice outside - why weren't the cyclists outside in the first place?
2. If it was that nice outside - why didn't the other patrons decide to move outside?

I remember as a student, both at Sunderland Poly. then later at Cardiff Cycoed centre, sitting in the Union bar and getting the smell of fellow students on the PE Ed. course smelling. They had their kit on perhaps all week and then went out to the bar of an evening still in the same kit. There were rather a lot of them and as they were usually Rugby players (Cardiff) or mad Scots footballers (Sunderland) my friends and I just put up with it. We were after all just Art students  . And as one employer I worked for on a summer job said to a fellow student employee (who was studying PE) in front of the rest of us one lunch time. "Art's just a game".

I suspect that although the complaints may have been about the bad odour, which is possible, but it was most probably a blind to 'get these cyclists dressed in lycra out of our pub' so the regulars can get their seats or just an anti cyclist management!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what I would have told them to do if they had tried to make me leave. I wouldn't have any of that old b*****ks. Stand your ground I say.

If you smell like crap it's as bad or worse than smoking where people eat... Shouldn't be stinking after 6 miles unless poor personal hygeine or wearing smelly clothes.

This really is a non story. Some smelly people were asked to leave a pub - so what. Some people have bad body odour issues and some seem to be resistant to using a washing machine. Personally, I think it is pretty unpleasant to sit next to someone who has failed to maintain a reasonable standard of personal hygiene.

I also agree, you cannot get that smelly after 6 miles, so it was probably dirty kit being re-worn.

On the club run, when you are drafting someone, it is quite apparent who is wearing smelly (unwashed) kit.

When I joined military one guy had exceptionally bad armpit BO despite showering twice daily, communal showers so we knew he was washing. He must have neglected his pits or something. Nothing worse than trying to gulp down air during a heavy run with that stink wafting in your face!

My Doctor always said never to over-wash your pits as it kills off the good bacteria. Doing that REALLY DOES make you stink imo.

Maybe the real reason was that the cyclists "lunch boxes" were putting off the other people from eating and drinking!

This has already been done over on the other thread.

A bit of research concluded it's a REALLY unfriendly pub that seems to look for any excuse to kick non-locals out. The reviews on Google are damning.

If I stopped for a pint every six miles, I'd be totally wasted by the time i got home?!! And what on earth were they thinking, 13 of them all sweaty and hot trying to sit inside a pub, thats what gardens are for.
I can only assume they cycled at 30-40mph each if they were that smelly and that thirsty after 6 miles
