I take it for granted nowadays that when I share the roads with cars, I will get some impatient pr**k pulling a wild and dangerous manoeuvre to get round me, just to shave a few seconds of their journey time.

Anyway, I am contemplating getting a camera to strap to my helmet, along with a white t-shirt with the slogan, "Smile! You're on camera." printed in big black letters on the back.

I wonder if that would have the desired effect in most cases!

Get a yellow reflective shirt with the "Danger! Explosives!" sign plastered on it instead.

The shoot I've seen people pull around the Police... you could put "POLICE" on the back (yes, police, not this "polite" like some people) and it wouldn't matter.

I saw a great vid from Texas (I think its in my blog from 2009) where a gun dealer tells a cyclist something like "Oh put it on show when you ride, let them know you're packin' heat!"

Your error here is to assume that some of these idiots can actually read... that some others will actually glance long enough to read... and that others still will put down their phone / cheeseburger / lipstick / shaver etc. to even be ar$ed to look, never mind read.

Doubt it. I was once teaching safe road cycling to a group of about 10 PCSOs. we were riding up a narrow council estate road and overtaking a van parked partially on the pavement.

Plonker in bloody great SUV decides to squeeze past!!!! Only about a foot of room !!! Tried to tell police sergeant at front that a) there was plenty of room, b) if we were any good there wasn't any risk anyway sicne we wouldn't have swerved in front of him and should have been aware of him and c) No, I don't want to spend a couple of hours at the local copshop, so I'm very, very, sorry, sergeant and I won't do it again, sir.

He then proceeded to trun into his drive about 150yards up t'road

So, no, I don't think it would make any difference.

Nothing wrong with it from what I have asked.

ISTR there was something about it turning our recreational filming exemption on displaying faces and numberplates into TEH OFFICIAL when you can't do that. Or something?

I asked the information commissioner if recording and posting numberplates on YouTube with the occasional face is ok. They said fine, falls under recreational use.
I also asked if displaying a sign would affect what it would fall under. They said it wouldn't.
So under the DPA you are fine but how the plod see it is another matter

A colt 45 across your back may well get you some more room. (And arrested!) Anything less is unlikely to be much use.
