Take a flask of coffee and a newspaper. Pass a few cars, find somewhere nice to sit where you can be seen to enjoy your coffee and newspaper, then set off again. Do this a few times, preferably with the same cars for maximum effect. Make sure you wave and point at your coffe cup whilst making signs of approval/obviously smacking your lips with enjoyment. Very childish. But fun.

My boss frequently turns up an hour late for work and says, 'did you see the traffic this morning?' and I always reply, 'yup, cycled passed it all'.

I love it when the southbound M11 is closed and all the traffic is diverted of at J7 onto the small road to and through Epping. It can take an hour or more to do the 5 miles to Epping from the M11. Makes cycling very pleasurable sailing past them.

I'm sure many of you drive a car too & hate it when a cycle flys past you while you sit in traffic, But the great thing about it that is that for a little moment you REALLY miss your bike so bad the following ride is a great one........

Now this IS a funny thread.
I cross the A1 by bridge near Newcastle racecourse every evening at 5.00 and give the Southbound drivers a jolly good wave when they are stuck in heavy traffic.

My workmates have bet me £20 to try and do it!

Previous experience of tapping on side windows resulted in being ignored, but maybe we will see. Depends how brave I am feeling tomorrow morning. Perhaps the offer of chocs may warm their hearts...

Afraid I'm about to kill the buzz this thread has created.

Had a similar level of smugness on my way home, also in Nottingham, yesterday as I rode from Beeston to central Nottingham - traffic backed up the wazoo for some reason, and me gleefully filtering down the outside of all of it with a spring in stroke and a smile on my face.

Then I found out the reason the traffic was so horribly backed up was that there had been a horrible incident involving a cyclist (possibly of the motorised kind) and a bus on the roundabout between University Boulevard and Queens Road. Don't suppose anyone heard anything more about it on the news?

I am very sorry about the nasty cyclist incident, however in response to the orignal post, today I whizzed (downhill) past a queue of traffic waiting to go through a bottleneck I had just gone through, and unfortunately it was a beautiful sunny day and I had a huge smile on my face, t-shirt, and I felt quite smug!

A couple of weeks ago there were major roadworks on the first hill of my commute. Normally it's a bit of an arse as it's a steep hill and you only really feel like you've warmed up after you get to the top.

But I found an extra zip in my legs overtaking a queue of traffic. Magic.

Well I have to say I'm disappointed I cycled via the Nott Knight r/about this morning at about 9.30am, from WB towards Rudd and there was no sign of any roadworks or delays. Crossing the r/about was a bit of a sod - I remembered why I tend to go via R\udd and Wilford normally!

Cycle-less ATM, but riding the motorbike, I came through a give way junction yesterday evening on the lower high st, and a MTB rider was approaching (my right of way), he gave way to me and I rode until I got to a queue of a car and bus at a mini roundabout which has a ped crossing directly on top of it., cyclist catches me up and then hops onto the pavement, weaves through a few pedestrians, rides across the ped crossing and then gone up a side street. My faith in human nature once again restored . Play the filtering game legally and safely, you are quicker than cars, but even quicker when using the pavements.
You rarely see roadies hopping pavements, and they don't need to onec they get going

Maidstone is to be wrought with traffic for an estimated 10 weeks whilst major road works are performed on the main roads around the one way system and through the town centre.

I wonder how my journey by bike will be affected.
