I've got a rear derrailleur problem, so can only use the top ring until it's fixed tomorrow. The hill outside my village, which I used to have to walk up the last bit of when I started commuting, has now been conquered on the top ring :wahhey: . Twice :wahhey: :wahhey: .

Sorry to brag, but friends and family are singularly unimpressed.

Non-cyclists don't appreciate things like that.

I stopped telling Mrs MM about my achievements long time ago. I used to get a 'Huh?'

Nice one
(I once had a front derrailleur problem, such that I was stuck in the big ring (and I run a standard, not a compact...) I nearly managed to impress Mr fimm by climbing hills like that...)

Nice work! My ex was suitably unimpressed by my feats of hill-climbing ... until I took her out on a ride. We happened upon a moderate hill which caused me to slow down slightly. When I got to the top, I turned round and she was a small dot somewhere near the bottom! It took her ten more minutes to get up the hill, she stopped about a dozen times and nearly vomited!

Your ex? Did you dump her because she couldn't cycle up the hill?

Sweet!

I've done a thousand miles and still going just with the front big ring...

can't afford anything else. All the hills have to be tackled with the big ring

Another impressed/envious here!

Mainly because today I came to a grinding halt on a local hill, in the Kent North Downs, wondering why I couldn't push my lowest gear anymore? Turns out I was in the big ring too

:bravo: great feeling isn't it  It's amazing what you can achieve when you've got gearing restrictions. If you're a strong cyclist & can't climb my best advice is to try to climb every hill a chainring up from normal . Hurts like hell but you'll quickly develop techniques & power to climb effectively.
