Changed rear gear cable on my old Holdsworth hack/shopping bike, yesterday.

Because it's a 6-speed with down tube friction levers, an absolute doddle. No awkward threading of bits of wire through STIs and beneath handlebar tapes. No fiddly adjustment screws; no road-test to get the indexing right. Just move the lever to the high position, have derailleur on smallest sprocket, pull cable taut, tighten nut, and you're away!

How I wish non-indexed gears would make a proper comeback! (*sigh*)
