*Some, from: Protein bars, Freeze dried Banana, Energy Gels and Chocolate Mini Eggs usually fill my pockets.

And while I sometimes bring back an energy gel or protein bar - I have NEVER arrived home with any Mini eggs left 😆

Before long covid, my goto refuelling snack for 2hour+ interval rides with threshold/VO2 efforts up a few little cat4 hills (263+ feet with average gradient 3%+) was a 250g bag of Tesco jelly babies, that I'd open before leaving, so I could grab some on the go from ~30mins into the ride.

~60g sugar per 100g and the Tesco ones actually taste really nice to me, plus they're only £1.10 per pack.

Unless I knew I was going to do a sub two hour strictly z1/2, I would usually eat a banana with a glass of water ~30mins before heading off.

Another favourite pre-ride snack was a sandwich, that could have any combo or all of...
Banana
Peanut butter (no palm oil)
Jam/marmalade
Marmite
Cheese

I was very late on the bandwagon to discover bidon mixes that include sugar and caffeine, for a long time I just used one hydration tablet per 700ml bidon, but for the last ~12 months (mainly for Zwift races) I now have this big tub on S&S...

Homemade flapjack and fruitcake with cheese are my ideal cycle snacks. They need some forward planning and I usually resort to trek bars if caugh5 between cafes.

We leave next week for this summer’s adventure and I’m trying to get some ideas about fuelling on tour. I tend to ride with the mentality that I’m cycling all day so I can eat whatever I want and honestly, I probably can’t!

So…what good snacks do you use on tour? Healthy ones. Healthy ones that taste as good as half a packet of petits ecoliers!

Where are you going?, I'd focus on the local cuisine. Coffee and snack mid morning, and decent lunch or raid on the local spa equivalent for picnic / sandwich stop. If it's hot you can't beat and ice-cream stop in the afternoon.

There are no border controls, but this Victorian-era pie seems to have kept going popularly longer there than most places and both Saxby's and Melton Mowbray are in the Midlands. Ropey supermarket offerings didn't help it, tho'

We lived in Staffs between Lichfield and Ashbourne, not sure where my parents bought Gala pie, but my paternal grandparents lived nr Leicester and would only entertain Melton Mowbray pork pies.

I stop every half hour for a bite and a sip. Bananas are a a staple, also Lidl cereal bars and jelly babies. I find mixing it up makes it easier to eat a bit. If I’m still going at dinner time I’ll stop for a sit down and eat a meal.

Here in Leicester we had the finest Pork Pie ever, the Walkers 'Fluted' 2 pounder, Fantastic crunchy pastry, lovely slightly spiced Pork and tasty jelly.

My suggestion: It's a holiday and an opportunity to try new things to eat - try whatever you find along the route and fancy. Keep a few long lasting snacks eg cereal bars, nuts, just in case of dire emergency.

Wow every half hour!
I stopped every hour on Leeds Liverpool canal ride and I felt it was too much.

Every two hours is my usual on tour.

Just a Belgian buns or banana or something.. beer and crisps us another good one.
