My last bike was steel framed, it snapped at the head tube, all metals work harden over time and are prone to stress fracture. You want a frame which won't stress fracture, get carbon fibre...

My gut instinct, and I could be totally wrong, is that with cro-mo forks either "chippy" or the wheel would have failed before the fork. Still would have resulted in a nasty off, obviously.

Anyone care to test this hypothesis? :whistle:

Actually no, I didn't even know it was there. I was just posting in jest. Interesting reading, and the comments are interesting too.
