Someone on the radio this morning mentioned all the people who had placed bets at good odds on Ronnie getting the 147. They were naturally a little aggrieved.
Whereas those who had got huge odds against him scoring a 146 will be feeling rather pleased. And "lucky"!

I am not suggesting that corruption was involved, but this kind of thing should always be of interest to those investigating betting scams.

I'd put my pension on O'Sullivan being straight.

As for the break, what ball he goes for is his business and nobody else's. He is not responsible for what people bet on any more than a football team has when they ease up at 3-0 instead of going for an achievable fourth because someone might have bet on 4-0.

147s are ten a penny now, there are several during the course of a season unlike thirty or forty years ago when few people had witnessed one.

1. If you do not like the prize money in a tournament - don't enter that tournament!
2. As a sportsman you have a duty to the paying audience and organisers to pay to your full skill - that is what they are paying you for.
3. Although I accept it did not affect the end result by throwing a point, the principle is still there. No different to throwing a crucial ball on a crucial frame to lose a game really.
4. The max break prize is a silly aside that is on top of the main prize, is merely rewards for the extra publicity. Knocking in 21 balls that would take 10 minutes = £10,000 All he has done is give them 100x publicity and saved the £10k - that will teach them!!
5. Rather biting the hand that is feeding you.

Sounds a bit of a clown to me.

36 balls for a 147 and a 146 break is impossible he must have left it at 140. Sorry for the pedantry.
He potted a pink instead of a black, thus making 146.
But a 147 wasnt exactly in the bag, as there was still about 50 points to get, so it all seems a bit of a storm in a tea cup, there is no guarentee he would have potted the tricky black, let alone found the position with the white ball to continue the break.

How long before one of them (probably Ronnie) makes a break greater than 147? Now that would be something.

Wonder if I can place a bet on that occuring in the next 5 years?

Someone scored 148 once, when they had a foul free ball, so it has already been done.
