Snow day

We seem to have missed out on the worst of the snow where we are, in both these recent cold spells we have had very little. We had about an inch or two Saturday morning but that was is it, the roads are generally clear around here and it is just the side roads that have persistent snow and ice.
I haven't commuted at all these past two weeks due to a change in circumstance so I haven't had much experience of riding on the roads with slicks.

I think I will take the car tomorrow. Don't want to risk it on the treacherous roads.

No doubt lunchtime game of footie will be called off too cos of frozen pitch.

Was planning on going fishing later on this week too!

It wasn't so bad on the way in this morning. Just had to be extra careful around junctions/corners. The cycle path was compacted frozen snow which was bumpy and hard going but I managed to cycle on it ok. Felt like I was pedalling a tank with 2.1 knobblies on though, sounded like it on the tarmac too! It took me about 20 mins longer than normal so not too bad.

What got me was the cold. I managed to spare most of my limbs by layering up, even my ears and nose were fine after a few mins with a buff over my face. My toes were fine with a pair of normal socks and thermal hiking socks. My fingers however were a different story. Even with glove liners under my winter gloves I still had painfully frozen fingers. I thought I'd never be able to pull the brake at one point (just as well I wasn't going very fast!). They got a little better by the time I arrived at work, but were still frozen enough to give me problems locking up my bike.

This morning wasn't too bad out my way, despite the snow yesterday. The biggest problem today was the freezing fog (-6C I reckon). You know it is cold when your glasses don't steam up. Instead you get a layer of frost you need to stop and scrape off!

It was about -10 for me, as my wife got in the car after I left an hour later and it said -9.
When I had got to work, there was frost on my gloves and my eye brows had frozen !
