The latest crazy VAT court case revolved around the Tunnocks Snowball.

You'll all be please to hear that they are now classed as a cake and therefore zero rated for VAT. Quite how the tax man ever thought they were a biscuit is beyond me.

So in celebration I'm offering a free snowball to every CC member.
Here you go!

if you read the article, the judges agreed with you, having been:
" presented with a plate of Jaffa Cakes, Bakewell tarts, tea cakes, Lees Snowballs, Waitrose meringues and mini jam snow cakes as they deliberated "

The Jaffa Cake, is it a cake or a biscuit?, battle with a mis-applied VAT rating was won by the argument stale cakes go hard and stale biscuits go soft.

Snowballs can't be judged by this criteria.

On the subject of Tunnocks' products, I sampled their caramel logs while cycling in Scotland last week. I intend to raise a petition to make them widely available in Southern Britain.

Waitrose all across southern England stock them.

And the plain chocolate tea cakes and caramel wafers.
