If you have a car, phone your insurer and ask them where one of they're insured would stand if they had opened a car door onto someone else. They should he willing to tell you, you are a customer of there's after all.
What are all getting at? I never said I was 100% right. Wait and see!

Granted he was cleared, but the CPS do prosecute.[/quote]
Just being realistic.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

I was just suggesting they could tell the op if he could claim on the other persons car insurance, and obviously he should wait and see what the police have to say first.

I hope the op can claim. It was a nasty one. Had a couple of close shaves like that myself.
Just bloody lucky he didn't catch the door edge.
Is it me, but if I get out of my car, I check the mirror first? Also do as a passenger.
Maybe they weren't a driver? Not an excuse though.

Get your injuries on camera. Some will disappear from view as others start showing.
You'll have parts letting you know they're sore that you never even knew you had. As the pain eases in one area another will make itself known.
Get down on paper what happenned, before & after hitting the door. Include the last thing you remember & the first thing you remember. Don't try filling in any blank spots. For the period between your last recollection and your first after the incident, try and work out how you may have ended up at the point of your first recollection. It will help in trying to work out a timescale. Keep this bit loosely worded, stating that you have simply tried to work out how you managed to end up where you did.
This isn't advice from a cyclists point of view, but one I've been asked many times over the years by various doctors/nurses in various A&E departments due to epilepsy. It may explain some of the marks & also give an indication of any head injury.
Keep a check on the eyes over the coming days..
Best of luck in getting things sorted, but get yourself sorted first & then worry about the bike.

May sound daft, but in about two weeks time consider getting your eyes tested. See if there has been any change in your vision due to what happenned.
It'll take about six months for the brain to stop bouncing around inside the skull, so vision will be affected for a short while.

drivers insurance should cover they were responsible for passenger at time of incident
keep receipts of everything related to incident be that you have to take a taxi or bus to the dentist or to work or somewhere else you would normally cycle to but couldn't now due to the incident
what you can't do is claim for the latest biggest best 3D smart TV claiming i needed something to watch/do during my recovery! it really doesn't make insurance companies happy
anyway i wish you a speedy recovery just don't rush it i have been there and done that and it really isn't worth it!
get pedaling when you can though
Cheers Ed

what are the police doing about it. Ask them why they are not prosecuting! Get your membership with CTC sorted and get photographs and keep every receipt. You are def in line for some compensation. GWS
Absolutely get back onto the police, opening a door that causes danger to other road users in an offence and the passenger needs prosecuting for what is quite a nasty incident
Plus any prosecution of the other party will also help your insurance claim against the driver re blame etc

i totally agree sounds like the copper was a bit of a wet blanket, she should have charged them on the spot. Does she even realise its an offence?

How unlucky! Only time I've ever been doored I got off with just a grazed hand and a wounded pride, awful to think that you can end up with your teeth knocked out and all. Hope you get better soon!

You should definitely claim. The "gold standard" repair would be a dental implant which are not available on the NHS. These are expensive and you would need to claim for the initial cost as well as the replacements as these things only last 20 years or so.

As regards the drivers car insurance some policies will also cover the actions of passengers within the vehicle as well as the driver so I would certainly look into it.
