So fed up with the bad press cyclists get!

Don't know about you but I am so sick of the bad press cyclists are getting at the moment, it actually puts me off going out on my bike. We are all being bloody demonised, for following a healthy pursuit.

And I am so sick of bloody people generalising that:
1) We don't own cars (Wrong I own a car)

2) We don't follow the highway code (Wrong, I always follow the highway code)

3) We should pay road tax (Fine I will pay it, but provide us decent cycle paths, and I already pay road tax)

4) We have a chip on our shoulder (I do now)

5) We hate cars (Wrong I don't hate cars, I just hate some of the peanuts that drive them)

6) We cycle because we are tree huggers (Wrong I cycle because sometimes it quicker than getting in my car)

Certain papers don't like minorities. Cyclists are a minority.

The same papers pander to the low life end of the population who don't like anything healthy or different to their couch potato car worshiping lifestyle.

The same papers and people view as dangerous and subversive anything that can be associated with what they see as the climate change/ environmental conspiracy against their status quo.

Your rant is perfectly justified.

Even in a car you can get people who are so precious about every last mm of road & second of time it's ridiculous. Recently I deliberately held back coming up to a junction to let 3 people out, no one else was going to, hey I was turning right in 10 meters anyway with on coming traffic for a good 600m ahead so couldn't get into the petrol station anyway. The guy behind me was flashing his lights shaking his fist (maybe the w***er shake couldn't really see) & followed me into the petrol station. Que him ranting at me about owning a sports car didn't make me a traffic officer & I should have just driven down the road because I'd held everyone up & made them late. I just asked him what was so important about stopping 5 seconds earlier when I was stationary until the same point in time, he told me I was a moron got back in his car & drove off (note he did was rant for about 1 min!).

Just imagine someone like that following a cyclist at 15mph instead of 30mph for 10 or 15 seconds? With people like that on the roads how do us cyclists expect to find any way of not being demonised? It's this me me me culture where every second & mm counts regardless of or even despite the outcome.
