Only a leisure traveller normally. Just noticed that a single from Carlisle home has just gone from £9 to £9.50 though

Thankfully commute by bike so doesn't bother me. However the stated reason for the increase of shifting the burden is rubbish. I'm not going to get a tax cut because I'm paying less to the railways. I'd rather have a decent rail system for when I need it rather than line the pockets of DC's mates

York-Leeds return and York-Manchester single fares have decreased by £1-2.

It's about time to be honest, the line/rolling stock (barring FirstTPE) hasn't been updated in years.

But York-Manchester return (TPE)* has gone up - see my post above!

I wouldn't care how old the rolling stock was, if I got a seat more than 50% of the time. They don't need newer trains, they just longer ones!

In fact I recently travelled by Grand Central on an elderly HST (1980's?) and it was glorious. More legroom than I could fill, and those door you have open by sticking your head out of the window.

Is there a York-Manc service that isn't TPE? I haven't found one around the time I need to travel.

You are right, it is outrageous that airfare is way too cheap.

Yep, those planes are just road tax dodgers.

I don't have a job so I don't have a commute so I can't remember what the fare was when I last got on a bus (2009, I think) or on a train (2010, with the bike, off out for a ride). But it was already overpriced (in terms of my income) back then.

You mistake your vehicle for a train? What a surprise.
No, Never - it's always on time, it's never overcrowded, It gets me door to door, I always get a seat and it naff's eco warrior's off.. No, seriously though, it is a good vehicle.

Although I never use a train I am genuinely annoyed about the increase in train fares and I do feel sorry for the people who have to use them and my heart goes out to them. :hugs:If any of you guys need a lift and you're going my way then you're welcome to a lift (heated seats with climate control and curtain airbags for your comfort and safety). Love BFF.
