My commute home was uphill. Cycle in any direction from central London and you'll go uphill eventually. I didn't mind it- it gave me an excuse to stretch my legs and put some speed on.


I guess it could be one of those psychometric testing questions like "Do you prefer sunrise or sunset?"

Sunrise preferrers were thought to be go-getting, positive and energetic types, sunset supporters were bedwetting shoplifters or something.

I always preferred about half-past twoish.

Right now living at the top of an awfully steep hill, parts of the pavement have steps.
I'm scared to bring my bike here, at least until I've sorted the brakes out.

Ah! Hills, schmills! It's all about repeating over and over to yourself, "it's only pain, it doesn't exist!". That little mantra has got me to the top of many very phat hills

I live about 1/3rd way up but at the bottom of my hill is another small hill, 2 miles of flat than a 8% ish near 1 mile uphill battle
I prefer uphill to work as once I have got up it I know the next 4 miles are easy.

Top here too. It means my rides have a final effort required... in my case, around 8km of 6% average, 9 or 10% in places. Fun in tired legs!

I managed to move into one of the only streets in Norwich on a hill! To make it worse, it's a one way street uphill and the house is halfway up.

Of course, I never go downhill on the pavement.....

It means I had to learn to climb, and I hate going uphill on cold legs. Both kids know that wherever they cycle, they have to climb home. They really have the advantage over all of their little friends who tend to get off and push, (not that Cubester would ever shoot past anyone on a hill, or stand at the top taking the piss out of anyone struggling up behind him, including his father......
