Nasa have slammed their LCROSS Centaur and spacecraft into the Lunar surface, in doing so they hope to analyse the dust thrown up for ice/water and other stuff...

Really?

Surely this is the USA's first attempt to see what possibilities the moon has to offer by way of minerals and such. Not content with raping the earth of its resources, now the moon is targetted.... or is it a genuine scientifically valid experiment that wont lead to a nation claiming the moon as their own and charging the rest of us for observing it

funnily enough i opened the bbc service as this happened live. quite disappointing coverage actually, the commentators had very little to say.
cost 10's of millions dollar, cynical view there jonnyh:biggrin:
money imo could have been better spent on Earth cleaning and providing clean water to the people here and now

Got to start somewhere - the moon is the first stop on a journey away from Earth. It's bound to be driven by commercial interest though. Eventually though, whatever benefits there are should filter down to everyone. Not in our lifetime though.
