Sympathies, redjedi.

Not sure about the wisdom of pootling home when you're not in the best of shape; maybe best to have an easy taxi ride home.

(Whatever you do, don't use any 'spray-on Elastoplast'-style stuff on the wounds. It's like pouring acid on them and the stinging doesn't go away after a few minutes !!)

Have a restful weekend and make sure you get yourself checked out by the doc if the thigh gets more painful.

Thanks all.

It did look quite fresh and wasn't very big (but enough to cover the cycle path). I wasn't actually using the CP but cut across it when turning.

I have emailed Hounslow council about it, so I'll see if I get a response.

I'm most annoyed about the damage to the Campag levers. I bit of touch up paint should cover it, although it won't look quite the same, and I'll need to smooth it down a bit first.
I can probably get away with just replacing the one side of bar tape, as long as I can find the same sort.

My thigh and finger are killing me at the moment, not helped by sitting down and typing all day. I've taken some Solpadeine so just waiting for it to kick in.

Now I need to decide, do I take a taxi home or just pootle along on my bike.

I would go along to casualty to get yourself checked out just in case or see your doctor. Are you not doing this simply because you don't see yourself making a claim at this time? I would see a doctor either way.

The roads were bone dry this morning, and the spill didn't have the tell tale rainbow effect you get when it's wet. I really only noticed it as I was going over the top of it and thought "that looks like oil" and at the same time finding myself on the floor.

I've taken that corner much faster in the past, and I don't even think I was at much of an angle (unlike last night when I found a really nice corner in Southall that I was able to take at great speed and nearly rubbed my knee along the tarmac . I was looking forward to doing it again tonight )

Sorry, I probably sounded a bit sanctimonious there, apologies if I did, i think I was actually saying I corner like a wuss so I dont fall off

I have cornered right on the edge, off a hill at thirty plus and it is amazing how much grip you have on slicks, the intermediate tyres I have go all squirmy and horrible if I try that.

Bad luck in hitting it in the dry, hope your bruises arent to horrendous, have a pint, put it down to experience, find out who dropped it and kick them in the bollocks.

No worries mate.
I would love to find out who dropped it

Now for some gorey pics ( sorry for the quality, I think my hand was still shakey)

Both ergos are like that :hyper:

Look at the gash on that

The culprit. I couldn't tell what it was, but there was more than I thought. You can also see where it's splashed, so there must have been quite a lot.
This was taken on my way home and it still looked damp.

And now my injuries

Road rash on my left forearm

and my finger. That pic doesn't do it justice, it's much more juicy.

I'll hold back on my thigh pic and see if it gets a bit more colour on it over the weekend.

I rode home and the pain was less the faster I went. Isn't adrenaline great :hyper:

But the pain seems to be all in the muscle rather than the joints, which I hope is good news.

Wish I had a garage as big as yours (first pic). It's massive. Looks bigger then my house! Didn't tell us you were loaded.

That's the warehouse at work. I can't get into my shed when the bike is in there.

The council always have a duty of care, regardless of whether the spill has been reported.

The difference that reporting it makes is that you then have proof that the council were aware of the hazard. If someone else then comes off on it then the council will be unable to use the defence that they weren't aware of it. Which is a weak one anyway, because they are expected to take reasonable steps to make sure that they do know about any hazards on the roads.

Sitting around waiting for people to report hazards is not sufficient.

Giving misleading advice could cause someone a lot of needless hassle.

Are you 100% certain of this as I have taken it on good advice that councils are not liable if they have not been informed, or given a reasonable time to respond to the problem.

The best advice is to call in a problem if you see one if you feel it is seriouos that it could cause someone to have an accident ( use 999), and get the police to deal with it, or that they delegate that to the correct authorities.

I'm fine thanks Aperitif.

My finger's still painfull and my thigh is nicely bruised.

The only problem with getting a new bike is choosing the colour of it. Do I go red to match my bleeding finger or yellow and purple to match my thigh?

Looks sore. Hope you're on the bike again soon.

I saw a couple of kids come-a-cropper on greasy paths nr Tooting Bec Athletics Track after a hail shower yesterday...
