Blimey - Human Planet just keeps getting more astonishing!

I thought the tree-house dwellers were amazing. Build a big hut 40 metres up a huge tree, your older kids use the branches as a playground, and your toddlers just toddle about next to an opening to a 40 metre drop - no worries!

The man who wanted to keep his wife sweet - literally - so he climbs up one of those huge trees in which he has spotted a bees' nest (hive?), calmly walks across an exposed bough and with the aid of some burning leaves to smoke the bees out, shoves his arm in to extract the honeycombs. He gets stung - a lot. His wife and kids are sitting down below, calmly chatting about how daddy is good at fetching honey. Some of his mates had died falling off trees, but - hey, no worries!

In the episode I caught up on last night, 3 Dorobo hunters come across 15 hungry lions devouring a wildebeest that they have just killed. Obviously, the thing to do is to sneak off quickly while the lions are distracted, right? Nah - you and your mates just act cocky and stroll towards the lions as if you are the Kings of the Jungle - no worries!

Who are you staring at!

Amazing. I have seem something similar in a documentary once before, where a group of African tribesmen demonstrated that the way to shoo off lions was to walk right up to them. Seems that their ancestors hunted lions for their manes and claws, so that lions are to this day are still afraid of humans. Not that I would choose to put that one to the test....

I'd want to be armed with three fully-loaded AK-47s before I'd do that! One to shoot the lions if I 'blinked first', the second in case the first packed up, and the third in case I didn't kill all the lions with the first two! ;)

First episode I've seen of that series.

I must say walking up to lions and pinching their dinner right in front of them was quite awesome.

Anyone want to play "Call my Bluff" ?????

Mind you - if I had three fully-loaded AK-47s, I might as well kill the wildebeest myself and not have to wait for some lions to do it for me!
