Erm, what? So they're not just GP's on that show? They do things doctors can't do, like some kind of miracle workers? Hmmm.
Our @gb155 went on the show because his local NHS refused to pay for the surgery to remove the huge area of loose skin left after he lost over 25 stone in weight. He couldn't afford to pay for it himself so he got it paid for by the TV company.

Did you even read my post? People can act like nutjobs, people can be peanuts, women can be nasty controlling bitches... if you want to think everything is a derogatory term relating to mental illness then let's just ban all words...

To a degree, yes we can sit here and be insulted by everything all day, if we choose to be.

The problem I have here though is that "behaving like a nutjob" is using mental illness as an insult, which is only acceptable if we also use phrases like "behaving like a Cancer patient" or "behaving like an aids victim". Having a mental illness is not bad or, shameful, nor should it be treated as such.

It's the same thing as using "that's gay" to mean "that's bad", which is also not on IMHO.

I think folk need to lighten up a bit if they find the word "nutjob" offensive. Since I wasn't referring to her as someone with a mental illness, a point which I had made clear, then I don't really see how it could be taken as a derogatory term. I also think we shouldn't compare physical illnesses to mental ones and fixable ones to terminal ones, but that's a whole new debate.
