I got GT5 for PS3, and new coat (other one was 10 years old and threadbare and the missus insisted I replaced it) and a Hope 1 for the commuter ...

Oh, and a batch of various smellies ... although I am assured by the family it is not because I smell ...

Cheers,
Shaun

Now there's a great saying for cyclists ...

Am I gloating? Well yes, just a bit.

God I have a fabulous wife.

Yep! It's been a long journey. I have the original Model Railway News magazines that covered 'The Project'. I was briefly the custodian of a well made Project while I prepared it for sale on Ebay on behalf of a widowed neighbour and I didn't have the spare cash to buy her deceased husband's lathe. I've had a lathe in my shed for several years but had too many distractions but now is the time:

Got the lathe
Got the instruction manuals
Reeves 2000 catalogue is in the post
There's the annual Model Engineer exhibition in London in three weeks time
I have some spare cash :-)

I was thinking of building a Dee but with the platework of something more Northern like perhaps a L&Y 7' as my next effort, but then I saw that EIM are serializing an 8F, a bit more work but one of the few classes I saw working. Work will start sometime in Feb.

Model Engineer is giving away G1 Green Arrow plans from the next issue for the next few months, a couple of sheets at a time. They've just finished issuing Martin Evan's Southern Belle. During my investigations of the what had been given away I was pointed towards Roger Thornbe'rs designs one of which, a West Country, really appeals.
There's too many driven axles in an 8F to make quartering tolerable - I know a 9F's worse

How big is your lathe?
My one is a little small for something I need to make. I need to turn an aluminium disc 11" diameter 3/4" thick to make the end cap for a motor.

So near and yet so far. My lathe has a 5" centre hieght but do not have a chuck that could accommodate the disc. My lathe is a rather basic Raglan Loughborough training lathe that has not seen much action at all. The scarper marks are still visible on the lathe bed. I got it for the princely sum of £100 a while ago from a school that was about to be demolished.

Check with some of your local schools especially with ones that have just been rebuilt - they have some flash machinery that will not see any action from the kids - health and safety issues.

Well - I got my nearest and dearest around the Xmas din din table

Same here - well, most of them. Anything else is a bonus.

In my case the bonus was some pyjamas, knee high bamboo socks (nice and warm for work), a book of patterns for knitted and crochetted flowers(perfect quick projects for using up scraps of yarn, and possibly saleable), a whole load of vouchers to buy stuff from Riverford Organics, some shower gels and one of those nylon net body scrub things (actually good, as mine is unravelling), a nice leather photoframe with photo of Oli and Max, some money from Mum, and a calendar.

But the best thing of all was probably when Oli hugged his new Brio Mallard loco (from me) on Boxing Day, and said "This is my favourite engine!"

I had a cateye sabre wireless cycle computer, which was cool, and some books, toiletries etc. Also a good old fashioned bike bell with 'I love my bike' on the top of it. It is NOT going on the road bike......
