We stopped at Sandbanks earlier to have a car picnic, and it got me thinking just why is a view across Sandbanks so sort after and so expensive?

There must be other views?

The first thing that springs to mind is, is that a sewer pipe or a sea wall across the bottom of the picture and secondly, high tides and flooding issues.
i guess it would be a nice outlook on a summers day with blue skies etc but by the same token I'm also guessing it would be teeming with tourists. So not the peaceful idyllic setting it would first appear to be imo.

Maybe it's not the view from Sandbanks (as there isn't much of one really) that matters - maybe it's just the fact that it is one of the sunniest and warmest spots in the UK and that the rich are surrounded by the equally rich which may be appealing to them?

We have good friends in Poole who live in a very similar house to ours but theirs is worth well over twice as much. We have fabulous views to the mountains out front and open hills to the rear. They live in a over-developed suburb with pavements littered with dog crap. Their views are non-existent unless you count other houses as views.

To us the whole area feels down at heel tbh esp' the long stretch of Poole/Bournemouth coastline - they think it is fabulous as must the people who shelled out a couple of million for their houses at the far end of Poole (by the bird sanctuary or protected area - can't remember the actual designation) who look out over a road, some beach huts and an endless stream of tourists.

And the people who pay £100k for a brightly painted garden shed on the beach front must be away with the fairies.

All a matter of taste I guess.

I must admit, as much as i like the coast / seaside I prefer my own views of the semi rural countryside in which I live. I can watch the seasons changing as the grass in the meadows grow ready for hay making , the trees changing colour as they come into leaf and progress through summer into autumn, the view is constantly changing with the seasons.

I would think sandbanks much like many other coastal areas is going to be pretty grim in the winter time.

Is a view across Sandbanks sought after?

I thought the expensive bit was the property on Sandbanks and the view those properties had.
When I went past the whole shebang looked like a housing estate - all jammed in together. Emperor's new clothes I think

If it was the view, then Hull would be ... VERY sought after!

Methinks there may be a drawbridge on the approach road, and the neck of the peninsula is mined.

Nice properties, very close to the gem of the Isle of Purbeck and Dorset in general, and the Square and Compass in particular...
...which doesn't really explain the crazy house prices.

That Russian oil money isn't going to launder itself. (Allegedly)

I sometimes ride down there through the New Forest if I've got a day to myself. It's very pleasant if the sun's shining.
