How far is your commute?

5 miles ish, i vary the route a little going home (5.1 or 5.7 miles depending on how energetic i feel) but the route in depends on when i leave the house! lol. 12.6 miles yesterday with 1200 ft of climbing! i will do a 36 mile commute in soon, just need the right weather for it!

Wow! My commute only manages about 900 ft in 20 miles! You must feel thoroughly oxygenated when you arrive for work in the morning

i didnt want to stop!! the last bit is a 500 ft climb over about 2-2 1/2 miles but i felt great once over the top! would have gone down and back up again but wouldn't have had my shower if i did.

Then I cycle though the un-interesting town of Liancourt, then through more woods to Monchy Saint Eloi - the little village where my work is.

I particularly liked one of the road names in this one: "Rue du froid vent".

It's loud, narrow, windy and scallies on old BMX and mountain bikes blast pass you coming the other way without a care in the world.

It's not as nice as it seems

I really like that one. It reminds me of the scenery I used to pass during one of my commutes when I lived in Wiltshire.

My commute into London can be urban (A23) or rural (Chipstead, Carshalton & through to Mitcham/Tooting/CS7). Going the "back roads" starts quite nicely, although a bit "lumpy":

My commute starts from Westwood East Kilbride down A727 Queensway towards Busby and then across the Carmunnock Bypass toward the top of Castlemilk.Downhill towards Simshill with a view across Glasgow in distance. More downhill at Kings Park going towards Cathcart. Manse Brae over towards Cathcart Station and finally Newlands road to the factory.(beige building at end of rd).
More or less the same way home but stay off the Queensway to EK and head thro' Thorntonhall as its a lot quieter going home at busier times (plus lovely country views and good surface). Final leg over towards Hairmyres and then back to Westwood.
About 5 3/4 miles in mostly downhill and 7 miles home all uphill .
Some of the small country roads off of Thorntonhall are really quiet and a lovely run with mostly good surfaces.
Journey in is great as i leave about 6.30 am and its really quiet. Coming home can be a bit hectic but always good in the countryside

I love Glasgow! I really like the view of it you have on your way to work in the morning - and you get a view of mountains! Oh, lucky you!

Yeah. Smashing views JD thats when you can see it thro' the rain . Really enjoying using the bike again and going to try and carry on commuting thro' winter (only about a week away from seeing the gritters out up here ). My run looks like luxury regarding traffic compared to some of the guys and girls commutes on here in the busier cites down south.
