I've just been looking through the Yahoo news section for the UK & Ireland and came across the Soaps Preview. This then went on to tell you what's going to happen in the next week on Coronation Street, Eastenders and another. Now, I'm not a follower of soaps so to me it doesn't matter but I guess there are many who do follow them so why on earth tell people what is going to happen in the future. Strange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who smiles or has anything nice happen will be devastatilyg crushed by a personal disaster, murder someone or is going to die

The pathetic idiots that hang on every storyline like to read what's happening before watching it, it then gives them something to talk to people about.

'So and so on Westenders gets shot this week'

'Oooh, do they?'

'Yeah, but then they run away with what's her name, and the pub gets burned down (again)'

I usually spoil the conversation by chiming in, "It's NOT real'

Not my cup of tea really but if people enjoy it good for them.

Can't see it is doing any harm.

I can.

When you look at our broken society, with its domestic violence, knife crimes, drunken brawling, you have to ask where the perpetrators got their personal life values from?

Soap operas provide all the fuel for the fire (IMO)

People see on TV at 7pm, that it is ok to scream like a banshee at someone if you lose an argument. Violence and murder are ok as a resort to solve a problem.

TV execs used to say that soaps reflected life, but I think life has started to reflect soaps.

Actions that are at one point extremes in real life get included 'because it makes a great story'. The majority see it. Some recreate it. It becomes the new norm and more extreme extremes are sought. A downward spiral ensues over time.

Something to be said for that argument. I also find it sad when they have a soap actor on chat shows about certain issues because their character went through the same storyline! "So, Mary, despite being a happily married mother of two, you once played a heroin-addict in Emmerdale Street. Could you give these heroin addicts in the studio with us today some advice?"
